Private Chef with Children at the Table: How Villa Dining Works for Families in St. Barts

It's one of the most common questions parents ask before booking, usually a little apologetically: will the chef mind cooking pasta for my five-year-old? The honest answer is that children are one of the best reasons to have a chef at the villa — not an obstacle to it.

Children eat on their own schedule

Restaurant dinner at eight is fine in theory and difficult in practice when a small child has been in the sun since morning. At the villa, the timing bends: children can eat early, by the pool, in whatever state they came back from the beach in — and the adults get a proper dinner afterwards, once the house is quiet. That single change is what most parents remember about the trip.

We've written more broadly about how a private chef makes a family holiday easier.

Simple food, cooked properly

A children's plate doesn't have to mean an afterthought. The same good ingredients, prepared in a way that appeals to a young palate, usually lands better than anything elaborate:

  • Fresh pasta with a simple sauce — reliably the safest dish in the house.

  • Local fish, grilled plainly and served without anything unfamiliar on the plate.

  • Fruit from the market as dessert, which almost always wins.

  • Small tastes of the adults' menu, for the ones who want to try.

Allergies are easier at home

For parents of a child with a serious allergy, eating out on holiday is rarely relaxing. In your own kitchen, the chef controls every ingredient and every surface, and you can have the conversation properly in advance rather than across a noisy dining room in a second language.

The meal parents actually miss

Breakfast, usually. On a family holiday it's the meal that quietly falls to whoever wakes first, every single morning. Handing it over — fruit, eggs, fresh bread, coffee already made — changes the start of the day for everyone.

Tell us the ages and the fussy ones when you get in touch — it genuinely helps plan the week.
